WELCOME TO THE BRISTOL ANGLICAN CURSILLO WEBSITE
What is Cursillo?Cursillo (pronounced cur-see-o) is a movement and ministry of the Church, providing a method by which mature Christians are empowered to grow through a closer walk with Christ, (which we call Piety) Study and Action. Cursillo enables Christians to share Gods love with everyone and seeks to serve the whole Church by equipping us to be the church wherever we are and in whatever stream of tradition or theology we are comfortable. Cursillo emphasises the ministry of the laity alongside the clergy, and in Bristol Diocese it can be, and is being used as a practical expression of sharing our lives with others in line with our diocesan strategy of Going for Growth. Here in the Bristol diocese, Cursillo is fully supported by both Bishop Mike and Bishop Lee, the latter having attended one of our Three-Day Weekends.Cursillo places a significant emphasis on growth through the mutual strength and support derived from working in groups to win the world for Christ and thia again fits with our diocesan overall strategy.People are generally introduced to Cursillo via one of occasional community gatherings (called an Ultreya) and subsequently by attending a three-day weekend in which new Cursillo pilgrims join with existing members of our Cursillo community to start to discover or confirm where we are on our Christian journey and perhaps more importantly, where Christ is leading us in the future. During the weekend new and mature Cursillo pilgrims form a Christian community lovingly enfolded in prayer - a community learning, praying, talking, sharing, singing, eating, living and laughing together. The weekend is highly participative and certainly could not be regarded as a retreat. After the weekend, new Cursillistas (as they are now called) become full members of the Bristol Anglican Cursillo community, receiving ongoing support and encouragement, through a combination of small local groups and occasional Ultreya area gatherings. It is the provision of this continuation programme, designed to complement and enrich parish activities, that sets Cursillo apart from many other renewal experiences.Bristol Anglican Cursillo is a registered Charity no 1081417
