Cursillo is a movement of the Church, providing a method by which Christians are empowered to grow through prayer, study and action and enabled to share Gods love with everyone. Cursillo seeks to serve the whole Church, and to equip Christians to be the church wherever they are, and in whatever stream of tradition or theology they are comfortable. Cursillo emphasises the ministry of the laity alongside the clergy, and in Bristol Diocese it can be used as a practical expression of Sharing Life.

People are generally introduced to Cursillo through a three day weekend in which the participants and the presentation team form a Christian community lovingly enfolded in prayer throughout the weekend - a community learning, praying, talking, sharing, singing, eating, living and laughing together. Lay people and clergy give a series of talks and meditations which offer a concentrated course in Christian living. There is a daily Eucharist, morning and evening prayer and time for silent reflection, though it is not a conventional retreat.

After the weekend, the participants receive ongoing support and encouragement, through a combination of small local groups and occasional area gatherings. It is the provision of this continuation programme, designed to complement and enrich parish activities, that sets Cursillo apart from many other renewal experiences.
